This team is looking for a Senior Benefits Specialist to join their People Operations team in a northern Chicagoland suburb who will take ownership of their role, helping build strategy and executing the day-to-day work making sure the folks who are working to fight climate change are taken care of. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the administration of global employee benefit programs including health insurance, retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance employee understanding and engagement with benefits programs.
  • Ability to develop and deliver employee training programs on benefits-related topics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefit related inquiries, providing timely and accurate information and resolving issues as needed.
  • Responsible for benefits-related compliance reporting e.g. Form 5500s, 401k audits, medical SPDs.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as People Operations, Finance, and Legal departments to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Lead the annual open enrollment process, including communication planning, vendor management, and system updates.
  • Oversee the administration of leave programs including FMLA, other statutory leave requirements, internal company leave policies (i.e. paid parental leave).
  • Analyze benefits data and prepare reports for management to evaluate program effectiveness and make informed decisions.
  • Stay informed about changes in legislation and industry trends related to employee benefits, and recommend adjustments to programs as necessary.

Position Requirements 
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Or 8 years of experience within an HR-related or Benefits role in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in benefits administration or related HR field.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state regulations governing employee benefits programs, including ERISA, ACA, and FMLA.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills 
  • Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CEBS, PHR, SPHR) is a plus.
  • Experience working in a multi-state or global organization with diverse workforce demographics.
  • Experience negotiating and managing contracts with benefits vendors
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce/Paylocity.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Hybrid – Your training period will require one month of being fully on site and then a hybrid schedule will be discussed and implemented
