Key Responsibilities
Technology Transfer:
- Lead the transfer of new process technologies and improvements from Science and Technology to commercial operations.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, process engineering, project engineering, and commercial operations teams to ensure safe and reliable integration of new technologies.
- Interface with technology vendors where applicable to understand commercial designs
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new and existing processes.
- Create engineering designs, specifications, and other necessary documentation for project implementation.
- Utilize process modeling software (HYSYS/Aspen) to perform process engineering design and/or optimize existing designs
- Interface with vendors or use in-house tools, software, and/or external expertise to perform preliminary capital costing for updated designs
- Organize and attend safety studies such as HAZOP for new process designs
- Review start up, shut down, operations and maintenance strategies with Global Services and Reliability teams
- Develop and standardize tools, templates, and methodologies to facilitate efficient technology transfers.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in documentation and design processes.
- Create and monitor a pipeline of anticipated technology transfer projects
- Create a formal work process for technology transfer to ensure consistency and quality of tech transfer process.
- Engage support from supporting teams to execute on multiple technology transfer projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery
- Act as a liaison between R&D, engineering, and operations to ensure clear communication and alignment on project goals and timelines.
- Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers and cross-functional team members.
- Provide expert guidance on best practices for process design, scale-up, and optimization.
- Lead technical and safety reviews and provide critical feedback to ensure high standards of project execution.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the engineering team.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and represent the engineering team in strategic discussions and decision-making processes.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Petroleum, or related Engineering.
- 8-15 years of professional experience with a focus on technology development and design
- Proven experience in developing and scaling bioprocessing or chemical processes.
- Strong knowledge of process design, including PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
- Experience in a commercial manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
- Up to 10% of global travel is required to support projects
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Hybrid – A minimum of two in-office days per week is required
