About the role:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Intellectual Property team at LanzaTech. This junior level role will assist in the development of LanzaTech’s intellectual property portfolio. The individual selected for this position will work closely with other members of the IP team and liaise with LanzaTech’s technical teams to ensure efficient capture of innovations, and will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate comfortably, in both written and verbal mediums, with personnel across a variety of business functions.

Key Duties:

  • Draft and file US and PCT patent applications.
  • Prepare, review and file PTO communications including, Office Action responses, Information Disclosure Statements, and assignments.
  • Perform a variety of foreign prosecution-related tasks including working with foreign associates to arrange national and regional stage filings (including all associated formality requirements specific to each country) and to manage foreign prosecution matters.
  • Maintain and independently docket patent records and monitor deadlines, including obtaining assignments and formal documentation required for filing.
  • Attend technical group meetings to identify inventions, and assist in the capture of IP.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of patent landscape, through routine patent searching, and review of relevant literature.
  • Develop search criteria, perform and maintain comprehensive patent searches, reviews and assessments, with responsibility for analyzing and distilling large volumes of information.
  • Assist in other duties as requested by senior IP team members.
  • Contributing to and adhering to all safety standards and practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree desirable.
  • Patent Agent with USPTO registration
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a patent firm or as in-house patent agent prosecuting and drafting applications in chemical (process flow schemes), chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering field
  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
