About the role:

This position will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Team with the maintenance of the LanzaTech R&D Laboratories and Corporate Office in Skokie, IL. The role will collaborate with other departments in a fast-paced entrepreneurial scientific organization to improve the overall operational efficiency in support of the organizations goals. The role involves performing a variety of complex, technical, and administrative duties as well as basic facilities maintenance tasks.

Key Duties:

  • Prioritize and undertake maintenance work to ensure that all equipment at LanzaTech’s Skokie Laboratory facilities is well maintained, measured for performance, and operating in compliance with vendor specifications.
  • Organize and maintain systems for preventative maintenance of installed equipment with Laboratory staff to ensure all equipment is safely operational.
  • Work with Supply Chain to ensure parts are adequately stocked for assigned maintenance activities.
  • Document equipment maintenance and work undertaken to ensure accurate records are kept.
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and project work in LanzaTech’s Skokie Laboratory facility, with the opportunity to lead smaller projects.
  • Assist in handling facility emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
  • Participate as a member of the Health & Safety Committee, maintaining awareness of Health & Safety issues within the Facilities Team. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a mechanic or technician role, ideally in a research & development environment
  • Prior experience working with and around hazardous materials is preferred.
  • Electrical experience strongly desired 
  • Mechanical aptitude important
  • Able to demonstrate a high attention to detail and accuracy in their work
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize work assignments
  • The ability to work under pressure while providing a high level of customer service
  • A strong team player who can also work autonomously
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and come in during non-business hours to meet business demands on a planned basis
  • Ability to operate a forklift is required, prior experience is preferred.
