Job Description:
We are seeking a Bioreactor Operator to perform the fermentations at a demonstration scale for the fermentation technology. This is a temporary position and is expected to last anywhere from three to six months in duration. The successful candidate will have experience with fermentation process equipment, be familiar with conducting routine sample analysis and comfortable in a fast paced, multitasking environment.

This position will also require a high level of schedule flexibility.  The candidate chosen will be expected to be working days, nights and/or weekends as needed.  This person will be utilized to lead small projects and to assist in day to day fermentation needs.

This position will be located at a LanzaTech partner facility and will involve working closely with a plasma gasification technology provider.  The successful candidate will be integrated within a 24/7 operating facility that is owned and operated by the LanzaTech gasification partner.

Responsibilities:

  • - Setup and operate bioreactors at various scales (lab and pilot scale): prepare tubing assemblies, feed bottles, CIP, and SIP Bioreactors.
  • - Carry out microbial fermentations and analysis.
  • - Sample bioreactors and prepare samples for further analysis.
  • - Complete check sheets and enter fermentation data into databases.
  • - Coordinate fermentation runs and sample analysis with remote employees in Skokie IL.
  • - Troubleshoot process equipment.
  • - Prepare media and other solutions.
  • - Clean and autoclave process equipment and other instruments.
  • - Perform other laboratory housekeeping tasks as assigned.
  • - Perform chemical and consumables inventory
  • - Special Projects as needed

Skills and requirements:

  • - BA/BS in biology or life sciences.
  • - 0-3+ years of biotechnology experience preferred.
  • - Ability to follow SOPs and BRs.
  • - Ability to multitask and collaborate across departments.
  • - Attention to detail and careful record keeping skills.
  • - Able to work independently and flexibly as some weekend work is required.
  • - Strong computer skills.
