R&D Chemical Engineer- Adsorption Technology

Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Chemical Engineer – Adsorption Technology.  The individual selected for this position will be developing and demonstrating new separation methodology, which will lead to Lanzatech’s ability to scale up and commercialize new product separation technologies.  Initial responsibilities include project ownership for the design and operation of bench and pilot scale apparatus, experimental planning and data analysis, and troubleshooting.  This position will participate on cross-functional global teams with Synthetic Biology, Fermentation and Engineering.

Specific Job Function:

This job entails the design and execution of R&D experimental programs using laboratory based pilot scale equipment:

  • Design and modification of experimental apparatus
  • Programing of control and data acquisition systems
  • Process operation, data collection, refinement and statistical analysis
  • Troubleshooting of multistep process technology
  • Documentation of pilot plant operability including: management of change, hazard identification
  • Participate in all aspects of a safe work environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's chemical engineering with 2-5 years of relevant process or laboratory experience or Master's chemical engineering with a relevant thesis topic  
  • Demonstrated experience with operation of lab scale chemical engineering equipment.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting ability and mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation and control loops
  • Detail-oriented and experienced in communicating instructions to other team members
  • Team player that thrives in a cutting edge, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Strong experience in MS Office

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience designing, building and modifying bench scale equipment
  • Familiarity using and modifying Lab View software
  • Experienced user of Swagelok and Valco valves and fittings
